This walk in a very short distance covers many of London's main sights including Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye to name a few. If you walked this without stopping you'd do it in under an hour, but as there is so much to see you probably will have done well to complete it in one day.

It forked before Westminster Abbey, flowing around what is now Parliament Square and creating the know forgotten Thorney Island. Now anything passing through the fancy parts of London could hardly be allowed to reek like the Tyburn did and so the river was buried. It now passes below the courtyard and the south wing of the Buckingham Palace.

St James's Park is a 23-hectare park in the City of Westminster, central London. It is at the southernmost tip of the St James's area, which was named after a leper hospital dedicated to St James the Less. It is the most easterly of a near-continuous chain of parks that includes Green Park, Hyde Park, and Kensington Gardens. The park is bounded by Buckingham Palace to the west, the Mall to the north, Horse Guards to the east, and Birdcage Walk to the south. It meets Green Park at Queen's Gardens

For the first time visitor to London, one of the 'must see' events is the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace at 11am. Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of Britain's sovereigns since 1837. Buckingham Palace is very much a working Palace so for the vast majority of visitors, Changing of the Guard is the only facet of Buckingham Palace they will see.
