They are 10-foot. You could either use them as-is (and lose the feeling that the castle is big, or redraw the maps splitting each square into four. The 5e adventure uses the old maps for the original adventure back in the 1980's. At that time, the squares of maps were 10 foot: source. D&D had its roots in wargaming.

This allows for the Roll20 interface to work correctly. When you turn the opacity up, you can see that the Roll20 grid is 5 ft per square. Though having the grid's opacity turned all the way down, makes the grid of the map showing, which is the correct scaling of the map. As far as the other issues you presented, I have passed them along to our devs.

Hi Jessica! Yes the scale is 1 square = 5 feet as that's what is considered standard for tabletop encounter scale. It's set to match the exact size of the castle itself as it's described in the 5E module, though as you'll see comes with gridless variants if you prefer to overlay a grid of a different size ratio.

From what I can see on my map of Castle Ravenloft, the main floor of the castle fits in a 24 x 18 grid of 10' squares so 240 feet by 180 feet = 43200 square feet. It looks like from the main floor, the second floor is 50 feet up and the floor beneath the main floor is 40 feet down.

Big mistake not cranking out both versions. Maptools latest version has support for isometric maps. Have not tried it yet but it would be cool to try it on this map The good folks at Fantasy Grounds have just created 2D Battlemaps for Ravenloft Castle, they are free and would work fine in Fantasy Grounds, Roll20 or the VTT tabletop of your choice.
