Depends on the route you take Cheapest, most fun, and often quickest is to take the skytrain to Saphan Taksin station, go down under the station to the pier under the bridge (Tha Sathorn pier) and catc the Chao Phrya Express boat coming from your left. Get off at Tha Chang pier and alk straign out through the market. The Grand Palace entrance is a 2-3 minute walk right ahead.

Bangkok's Skytrain (overhead rail system) runs along the southern part of Sathorn terminating at the riverfront. Here you can catch a boat to the historical sights like the Grand Palace or to the riverside hotels like the Oriental, Peninsula or Shangri-La. The northern part of Sathorn is well served by taxis.

If you're coming from the Grand Palace area in Rattanakosin, there are two ways to get into Sukhumvit. The fastest way is to take the Chao Phraya Express Boat to Sathorn pier in Silom. From there, continue your way north using the BTS Skytrain Silom Line.
