Is Corn Palace Worth Visiting? Overall, if you plan to stop just a few a short amount of time, I do think it is worth seeing, especially if you need a short break off the road. It isn't far off the interstate and provided a nice break for us.

We visited both Corn Palace and Wall Drug. While they aren’t worth going to visit as a stand-alone visit, they provide some entertainment along the drive through South Dakota that is quite whimsical and unique! Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. On our epic summer family, road trip Corn Palace was definitely not on my to-do list.

Lakota Woman, Corn Palace, and Wall Drug. Day 14 We traveled across South Dakota west to Wall, SD. Along the way we chanced upon the most magnificent 50 foot tall stainless-steel sculpture of the Lakota Woman, named Dignity. The bluff over the Missouri River where she stands is really windy, so her clothing looks as if it is billowing in the wind.

Corn Palace was a nice two mile walk away. All sidewalks and good walking areas. The corn palace is really a decorated arena. But it was a fun visit. They were selling tourist gifts on the main floor when we visited. The entire building was worth a quick tour. No cost to get in.

The Corn Palace is open year-round and is free to visit. Our peak season is from Memorial Day through Labor Day. When you come during this time, you truly see the Corn Palace come to life as it is redecorated with new corn, grain and grass to showcase a new theme. Soon travelers would make a point to stop at Wall Drug to enjoy a refreshing break and they haven’t stopped coming to Wall Drug since. Today, Wall Drug continues to offer the same amenities that made it a must-stop destination all those years ago, and visitors still stop to stretch their legs, eat a delicious home-style meal and drink some free, rejuvenating ice-cold water.
