If a player was allowed to castle out of check, or over a checked square, then it allows him to postpone this powerful move until the very latest, effectively removing the penalty from the privilege. For me, this rule has nothing to do with how the king (or any other pieces) move.

I can understand that castling into check would be absurd (you cannot voluntarily put your king into check under any situation), and I can also see why castling through check might be problematic for the very same reason, as the king would have to travel through a square that is attacked by an opposing piece.

The rules of chess state that castling is illegal when the king or rook has moved earlier, or the king is in check, or it would pass through check to castle. Having been in a check which was removed by interposing another piece, or by taking (not with king or rook that is involved in the castling, of course) the checking piece does not prevent the player from castling later.
