Clan castles with 20 troop capacity: One dragon (which fills the entire war clan castle) Two or Three Wizards (some prefer 4 or 5, see comment below), rest Archers (some use Minions as barbs and giants can’t attack them, but not recommended if one expects aerial attack) These days in war, most TH7 attacks are dragons.

Like the normal Clan Castle, participants can donate a maximum of 5-8 troops per War Base (dependent on Clan level), disregarding housing space (e.g. one could donate 1 Dragon, 2 Wizards and 2 Archers to fill up the space in a War Base with a level 5 Clan Castle), and the capacity of a player's Clan Castle in the War Base is equal to the housing capacity of the player's Clan Castle in the normal village. War spectators cannot donate troops into the War Castle.

A Clan War is fought between 5 Clans. However, all battles are matched against random opponents. The goal of the war is to reach the River Race's finish line before the other Clans by performing certain tasks. The first 3 days of a Clan War are Training Days, where Clan Boats cannot progress on the river or be attacked, while the last 4 days are Battle Days which do allow Clan Boats to progress to the Finish Line.
